La Bretagne (part 5) Morgat.

by Heather on April 13, 2010

In my younger days I had a thing for Miffy. (Still a huge fan of all things Dick Bruna but I’m not so tempted to buy everything I see featuring his artwork. My collection was getting a little out of control!) I had the Miffy Memory Game as a wee one and loved the picture of Miffy wearing her Breton top at the seaside, she looked so effortlessly stylish, if only I could be that cool.

As an homage to Miffy, I designed Morgat. It’s a little sexier than the traditional Breton top she wore on her holidays but that’s the way we like it here at Chez AoK!

Worked in Lion Brand Organic Cotton, (which also makes really good dishcloths), for the main part of the garment with Blue Sky Alpaca Dyed Cotton for stripes, Morgat is cool and comfortable to wear next to the skin.

The stripes are elongated stitches which, worked in a different size yarn, gives a good contrast to the smoothness of the main yarn.

I made the square neck very open, just enough to fall off the shoulder when the mood strikes.

I’m looking forward to wearing my Morgat all season long. Maybe when it gets cooler, I’ll wear it over a long sleeved T-shirt with a complementary scarf to keep my neck warm. The fella has already requested his own Morgat with a higher neck and shorter sleeves to show off his guns ;o) I’ll post pictures when it’s finished.

Next post: La Bretagne (part 6) Erquy.
